against racism towards all communities

We are saddened, angry, and shocked at the continued violence against those in our community. These recent incidents are only a few that have been documented. Our communities are being targeted with hate, violence, and the murder of our members, including our most revered and vulnerable. We have no doubt there are many more incidents that have not been surfaced to the general public. Because of these and future incidents, we must continue to fight together as a community to amplify our voices and drive tangible outcomes. We must fight together and stand in solidarity with the Black/African American community, Latinx community, Indigenous community, and all communities against the racism that threatens us all.

Join us to tackle anti-Asian discrimination
by leveraging your ERG, organization, and network.

The advent of COVID-19 has resurfaced major gaps within our community in regard to racial inequalities and injustices. Particularly for the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community, there has been a dramatic increase in cases of discrimination globally, from racial slurs to violent attacks against APIs. We acknowledge that anti-Asian racism is not new. However, such xenophobic bigotry poses a real threat to the well-being of our community, and more than ever, we must unite, speak up, and advocate for increased awareness and support for the API community.

With over 60 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), 15 Non-Profit Organizations (NGOs), 10 small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and 360 individual members in the Bay Area-wide and growing, ALA along with your support can help move the needle on this cause together.

 The COVID-19 pandemic has (re)surfaced several large gaps within the API community

  1. While perceived to be successful due to the “model minority myth”, the API community is still very much subject to racism. We acknowledge racism is an issue for all communities of color and also stand against the ongoing racism against other groups.
  2. A lack of mainstream media coverage and public support from influential figures due to cultural misperceptions of Asians being non-confrontational and not speaking up, and therefore not needing help.
  3. The API community needs resources and to focus on these issues, and calls upon the collective support from our own communities as well as that from our allies’.

We recognize that this is a big issue to tackle but the Asian Leaders Alliance will continue to empower you to collectively move the needle on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the wider community.
With over 200+ corporate API ERGs, 15 NGOs, 10 SMBs, and 1400 members in the United States, Canada, and world-wide and growing, we can do this.

  1. JOIN ALA: We are actively voicing on this issue and others important to the API community through our BAYCAT video, toolkit, workshops and more. You can join in a number of ways:

    1. Join ALA on Slack: Stay connected with the ALA by joining our official ALA Slack workspace to discuss all things related to the API community, xenophobia, and racism. Go on to share experiences, concerns, and relevant resources to support each other during this period of immense uncertainty and fear.
    2. Become a member & join our mailing listserv: By becoming a member, you and your organization will be continually looped into events, initiatives, and updates on how your ERG/organization could succeed in advocating for the API community within your company.
